Hormonal Skin Care Guide
Clean Ingredients Guide
Understanding What Goes Into Your Skincare
At Skin Care Matters, "clean" means more than a marketing term. It means carefully selected botanical ingredients that work with your skin, not against it. It means transparency about what's in every product—and what's not.
This guide will help you understand the natural ingredients we love and the synthetic chemicals we avoid.
Our Clean Beauty Philosophy
We believe skincare should be:
- Plant-based - Harnessing the power of botanical oils, butters, and extracts
- Free from harsh synthetics - No parabens, phthalates, sulfates, or hormone disrupting artificial fragrances
- Gentle yet effective - Supporting your skin's natural balance
- Transparent - Every ingredient listed, every choice necessary and explained
Ingredients We Love
Nourishing Oils & Butters
Shea Butter
Rich in vitamins A and E, shea butter deeply moisturizes and soothes dry, tight skin. It melts into skin without feeling greasy and helps support elasticity.
Coconut Oil
Naturally antibacterial and deeply conditioning, coconut oil softens skin and hair while providing a protective barrier that helps lock in moisture.
Organic Jojoba Oil
Actually a liquid wax that closely mimics your skin's natural sebum. Non-comedogenic and balancing, it's perfect for all skin types—even oily or breakout-prone skin.
Sweet Almond Oil
Lightweight and easily absorbed, sweet almond oil is rich in vitamin E and helps soothe irritation while providing gentle, non-greasy hydration.
Clays & Minerals
Bentonite Clay
A gentle, mineral-rich clay that draws out impurities and excess oil without stripping the skin. Helps refine pores and clarify the complexion.
Activated Charcoal
Naturally detoxifying, activated charcoal absorbs impurities and helps balance oil production—especially beneficial for oily or combination skin.
Pink Himalayan Salt
Mineral-rich salt that gently exfoliates while providing trace minerals. Helps soften skin and can be calming when used in baths.
Botanical Extracts & Powders
Aloe Vera
Celebrated for centuries for its soothing, hydrating properties. Aloe helps calm irritation and supports skin's natural healing process.
Arrowroot Powder
A silky, plant-based powder that absorbs moisture and oil without feeling heavy. Gentle enough for sensitive skin.
Organic Cacao Powder
Rich in antioxidants, cacao adds natural color to our face powder while providing gentle nourishment.
Essential Oils
We use pure essential oils for their therapeutic aromatherapy benefits and natural preservation properties.
Lavender
Calming, balancing, and gently clarifying. Supports skin's natural healing and promotes relaxation.
Tea Tree
Naturally purifying and clarifying. Helps support clear, balanced skin without harsh chemicals.
Frankincense
Grounding and restorative. Supports skin renewal and helps maintain a smooth, even complexion.
Geranium
Balancing for all skin types. Helps regulate oil production and supports a healthy, radiant glow.
Peppermint
Cooling and refreshing. Provides a light, invigorating sensation and natural clarity.
What We Avoid (And Why)
Parabens
Synthetic preservatives that can disrupt hormones. We use natural preservation methods instead—essential oils, vitamin E, and proper formulation.
Phthalates
Often hidden in "fragrance," these chemicals are linked to hormone disruption. We use only pure essential oils and naturally derived fragrance oils without added synthetics.
Sulfates (SLS/SLES)
Harsh detergents that strip skin and can cause irritation. Our cleansers use gentle, plant-based surfactants that clean without compromising your skin's natural barrier.
Synthetic Fragrances
Can contain dozens of undisclosed chemicals and are a common cause of sensitivity. We use essential oils and naturally derived fragrance oils without added synthetics.
Artificial Colors & Dyes
Unnecessary and potentially irritating. We use natural colorants like cacao, clays, and mineral pigments.
Mineral Oil & Petroleum
Derived from petroleum, these ingredients sit on top of skin rather than nourishing it. We use plant-based oils that actually feed your skin.
How to Read Our Labels
Every Skin Care Matters product lists ingredients in order of concentration (highest to lowest). You'll see:
- Common names - Like "Shea Butter" or "Lavender Essential Oil"
- INCI names - The scientific names (like "Butyrospermum Parkii" for shea butter)
- Full transparency - Every ingredient, no hidden "fragrance" blends
- Purposeful formulation - Each ingredient listed has a specific purpose
If you ever have questions about an ingredient, we're here to explain.
Clean Doesn't Mean Complicated
You'll notice our ingredient lists are relatively short. That's intentional. We believe in:
- Using fewer, better ingredients
- Letting botanicals do the work
- Avoiding unnecessary fillers
- Keeping formulas simple and effective
Your skin doesn't need 50 ingredients to thrive. It needs the right ones, thoughtfully combined.
